The world is becoming more evil and violent even though the majority of humanity lives in peace and dies of old age. Terrorist attack, war, school shootings, natural disaster, mass animals dying. These things are just a fraction of the destroying forces raging throughout our world, who can avoid the feeling that things fall apart, the center cannot hold?
The recent events show us how close we are to the end of the world, a world of evil thoughts and terrible acts, violence grow bigger and bigger every day. The signs show “our generation is living in the last days.”
The signs of the end times is something that all end time prophecy students look for to find out how close we are to the end of the world, we can look to current events where evil and violent are present everywhere, and if the signs are present in abundance, we can be certain that we are, in fact, living in the end times.
Have we seen these three things increase in frequency and intensity in the recent past? signs of the end times will appear with greater frequency and intensity as Christ’s return draws near. This is why Jesus mentioned this sign first when answering his disciples’ questions “When will all this take place? And will there be any sign ahead of time to signal your return and the end of the world?
Almost two thousand years ago, Peter prophesied about the end times. He said just before Jesus returns, people will openly mock the Second Coming. They’ll say, “What happened to Jesus? I thought He was coming back? Yet everything remains the same as it has since the world first began” (2 Peter 3:3-4). I’ll bet you’ve heard this argument many times. But is it true? Is the world of today “the same as it’s always been”? Absolutely not. In fact, it’s absurd to say it is.
Why? Because the truth is the exact opposite. Our generation is unlike any before it. Not only can we point to clear signs of His Return, but almost every sign the Bible says to look for is present right now! Some signs are completely fulfilled (such as the re-establishment of Israel as a nation). Others seem to be in an early stage of fulfillment (such as the emergence of a loose confederation of European nations as the dominant world power). But regardless of the stage of fulfillment, some form of almost every end times sign is converging in our time. Nevertheless, most people remain ignorant of these signs. And that’s a shame.
“Realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God…” (2 Timothy 3:1-4)
This passage sounds like a typical evening newscast today! Notice the five things it says people will love in the end times: brutal, haters, self, money, and pleasure.
For the first time ever, each of these signs is present. And at the same time! Think that’s a coincidence? I don’t. It’s not a coincidence. And time will prove it’s not. Jesus is coming. Now is the season of His return.
“We are standing on the threshold of the crisis of the ages. In quick succession the judgments of God will follow one another – fire, and flood and earthquake, with war and bloodshed”. (E.G.White, Last Day Events) This quote was made in 1914, and just look at what is happening in our world now! We are certainly in the end times!
