I recently had a chance to realize the sacrifices I’m making for being a prepper. My marriage would be a lot more harmonious if I weren’t prepping. I would have a lot more free time, and money. I wouldn’t have to think about diseases and gangs. I could be a normal American.
And I’d soon be dead. So would my family.
I know with absolute certainty that a collapse is coming. I also know that doing relatively small things now will allow me and my family. Not only live, but live semi-comfortably through the worst period of American history ever. When up to 90% of the population is dead or dying, I’ll be having pancakes with my family and my brothers. Fist bumps and maple syrup as we head out for a day of work protecting people. “This never gets old,” I’ll say. “Beats the shit out of selling insurance,” Pow will say.

So the marital strife I’m suffering now will quickly be seen as a small price to pay. Who knows: my family might even utter a “thank you” when they realizes all I did for them and the kids. The time I spent now reading/writing blogs, fish antibiotics, water treatment, water collection, home defense, escape plans, and generators will seem like nothing at all – it will seem like the best possible use of time ever. Ever. And money? This weekend I was sealing small bags of rice and beans that had a price tag of “$1.00.” I smiled. I knew that when I pull those out of storage, that same bag will cost $100 – if anyone is still taking American dollars . I will smile again. Even harder, and I’ll feel the warmth of knowing that I did the right thing, despite all the sacrifices.

Wife and I have been prepping for 21 years. No vacations(with exception wife went to see brother sister, grand kids and daughters this summer.- some she hadn’t seen in 15 years),movies,dinners out 3 in last 18yrs. Spent money on food,guns,ammo, other equipment,etc. Wish we could build house- monolithic dome https://www.monolithic.org/ coat outside too= 30 cal bullet prof. I’m 70 disabled (going on 11 years)-back surgery,hand surgery,eyes, sucks getting old. Get 1/2 of what most get on SS because been on dis so long. work part time when called/can. Anybody can prep if they want to. Wife’s daughters,brother & and sister are NOT doing anything in way of prepping. They expect they will come here. Ain’t going to happen-they have been told and warned.
Some neighbors know what we have- I told them. Some will be the first to come and try and take what we have-just what I expect and want-get ride of the scum earl on! Others know and I want them here. Even though I only sleep 2-4 hrs maybe, I can’t guard this place 24/7,360 degrees and help with gardening,wood cutting,etc. Lone wolves die lonely,hungry,thirsty,etc.
PS. Wife cold blooded person she is-said we didn’t sacrifice everything so others (grasshoppers) can come and enjoy it. quote” I’ll cut off their heads and put them on the fence posts”! She can and will do it! She said “it should slow looters down a bit”
Unfortunately, there are many of us with grown children (whom live in cities no less), who will have to store extra food for them. They suffer from normalacy bias. They cannot imagine being without their cell phones and Starbucks, much less imagine empty store shelves. I’m not going to turn away my children, but even they will be expected to work in the garden, haul wood, and feed the chickens. I’ll have no problem turning away anyone else.
In a situation/scenario like in the above comments I WOULD WANT TO BE LIKE JESUS CHRIST WITH THE MIRACLE OF THE LOAVES AND FISH, and not only to my relatives but to everyone/anyone who comes to me for help even my ENEMIES.
Love thy neighbor as thyself. Love your enemies. The merciful shall obtain mercy.
