That said, every prepper should know at least a few basics, and every prepper community should have at least one expert on hand to administer treatments for a host of debilitating conditions. There are quite simply too many diseases that could threaten our survival in a post-collapse world for us to prepare for all of them.
The only way you can be sure is to stay away from other people and make sure other people stay away from you and your group. This is something that may be possible if you live in a low population area and you have enough supplies to hole up until the dust has settled…how ever long that may be. For most people, however, that’s not an option.
Wearing gloves when out and about, and not touching your nose or face after any form of outside contact will go some way towards preventing the spread of disease.
Have as little physical contact with ‘outsiders’ as possible and consider wearing a face mask or a scarf over your nose and mouth when out and about.
Make sure you remove outer wear, including footwear before re-entering your home.
Check the seams and pockets of your clothes regularly to make sure there are no lice hiding away and inspect your body thoroughly if you have been out mixing with the population at large. Pay particular attention to armpits and groin as body lice favor warm moist areas when they feed.
It’s a good idea to keep a tub of some kind full of bleach water just outside the door so that hands can be washed before entering. Pay particular attention to the area between the fingers and the tips of your fingers.
Stock a huge supply of baby wipes and band aids. Use them if you have to go out and about. Germs can’t do you any harm if they can’t get into you and they usually get in via your mouth and nose or through a break in your skin.

The single most important thing you can do to prevent the spread of disease in a crisis is to keep your hands clean and keep them away from your nose and mouth,

There are two large health related things that come to mind regarding shtf and ww3. One is weaponised smallpox, the other is, in my mind, the real reason most of America is disease free – we have clean water and plenty of soap. Not antibiotics or germicides, simple clean hands and food preparation surfaces (not to mention clean food) as well as cleanish medical facilities. When that clean water and soap goes away, we can be assured of living the life of people in south American villages replete with all their diseases and parasites.
The idea of weaponised smallpox is, in a word, insane. It’s already a horrific disease that is spread so easily how does one weaponise it?
Well, apparently the Russians have and have made literal tons of it to store away for a rainy day. If you don’t know much about smallpox I’ll give you some pointers on it.
If you get smallpox and the pustules form on your skin, these break open and release spores so fine they drift in the wind current, and just like smoke, if the window to your room is open, the spores will leave you and travel about the room, find the open window, and literally drift up the wall to open windows in upper floors infecting all who breath them in.
More or less, if you’ve had eye contact with a smallpox victim, meaning you could see their body through a door or window, much less stood in the room with them, you have a great chance of coming down with the disease. Smallpox isn’t 100 percent fatal but close enough, and when it gets acting on a person it can turn them into a bag of skin filled with a liquid smallpox spore slurry (called a cytokine storm) after most all their cells have been destroyed replicating the virus.
Smallpox isn’t bad enough apparently so the Russians as well as others have created binary weapons with say bubonic plague and anthrax mixed in, or plague and smallpox, all in an effort to cause confusion as to diagnosis as well as to have a retrovirus mixed in that may lay dormant until long after the other biological has been defeated by the immune system of the victim.
